Followers and roles
Followers see your visits in their own Kin app. Each follower can be assigned a role which decides what they can see and do.
What can each role do?
- Owner. The person the profile belongs to. For a dependent, such as a child or someone who doesn't have their own Kin account associated with a separate phone number, the owner is the person who manages the profile. The owner can approve follow requests and invite followers.
- Admin. Sees and manages every visit, including private ones. Can record visits, share visits by link, and approve or invite followers. Only the account owner can remove an Admin.
- Viewer. Sees visits that aren't marked private, once the summary is ready. Can't record, share visits, or invite anyone to be a follower.
How do I add a follower?
Tap your name at the top of the Home tab, then Account settings → Sharing → Add a follower. Enter their mobile number and tap Continue. Choose Admin or Viewer, then tap Send invite. Your Messages app opens with an invite link written for you. Press Send. The invite lasts 30 days.
To add a follower to a dependent's profile, open the dependent under Following on the Sharing screen first.
Someone invited me. How do I accept?
Tap the link, then Open Kin, and sign in with the number the invite went to. Tap Accept on the Home tab. You'll also find the invite under Sharing → Following. If the link says "This invite isn't available," it expired or was already used. Ask for a new one.
How do I ask to follow someone?
Open a visit they shared with you and tap Request to follow. Otherwise, ask them to invite you.
Someone asked to follow me. What do I do?
Their request shows on the Home tab and under Sharing → Requests. Tap Review and choose a role. If you pick Viewer, Kin lists your past visits so you can make any of them private before they see them. Tap Save. To say no, tap Decline. Someone you decline can't ask again, but you can still invite them later.
If you text with Kin, Kin may also text you about the request. Reply yes to make them a Viewer, or no to decline.
How do I make a visit private?
Viewers can't see private visits. You and your Admins still can. A visit isn't private unless you make it private.
Before or during a visit, turn on Private visit on the recording screen. For a past visit, tap the eye icon next to the visit's title, then Make private. To undo it, tap the icon again and choose Make visible. A share link still opens a private visit, so think before you send one.
How do I change a role or remove a follower?
Go to Sharing, tap the person, then Change role or Remove. Admins can remove Viewers. Only the owner can change or remove an admin.
How do I stop following someone?
Go to Sharing → Following, tap the person, then Stop following. If you own a dependent's profile, an Admin takes over as owner when you leave. If there's no Admin yet, make someone an Admin first.
What does "We've simplified sharing" mean?
Kin replaced the old care circle, with its Viewer and Manager options, with followers. If someone used to share visits with you, the card asks you to tap Request to follow to see their visits again. If someone used to manage your account, the card asks you to Choose role for them or Decline. Invites and requests that were still waiting at the time didn't carry over, so send them again.
