Syncing your calendar

How do I connect my calendar?

Tap your name at the top of the Home tab, then Account settings, and turn on Add from calendar. Kin works with Google, Apple, and Outlook.

With your permission, Kin looks through your calendar for medical appointments. When it finds one, it creates a visit for you so you can get ready ahead of time.

Can Kin update my calendar too?

Yes, if you turn it on. Under Add from calendar, tap Advanced sync settings, switch on Two-way calendar sync, and choose a calendar. New visits you add in Kin go to that calendar. When you change a visit's title or time in Kin, the calendar event changes too, and visits that came from your calendar are updated in their original calendar. Timed, non-recurring visits sync while Kin is open.

If an event was shared to you and you can't edit it in your calendar, Kin can't change it either. Edit it in your calendar, or ask the event's owner.

Two-way sync needs full calendar access. If you see Two-way sync needs attention, open your phone's settings and give Kin full access to your calendar.

Why won't my appointment appear?

Start with calendar access. Kin can only see your calendar if you've given it permission. Open your phone's settings, find Kin, and turn on calendar access.

If access is already on, check these three things.

  • Give the event a start time — Kin skips all-day events unless the title includes a time. "Dentist 2:30pm" comes through. "Dentist" saved as an all-day event doesn't.
  • Check how far out it is — Kin looks about three months ahead. Anything further away shows up on its own as the date gets closer.
  • Give it a few minutes — Kin checks your calendar in the background. A new appointment won't always appear the moment you save it.

What if I change or delete an appointment in my calendar?

Kin updates the visit to match. If you delete the event, Kin removes the visit as long as you haven't added anything to it. A visit with notes, a provider, or sharing stays in Kin.

How should I name a calendar event on my phone?

A clear title helps Kin identify medical visits in your calendar.

Words that make it obvious: appointment, consult, consultation, follow-up, check-up, annual physical, screening.

Two more things that help:

  • Name your provider — "Annual physical with Dr. Smith" tells Kin who you're seeing, and their name shows up on your visit
  • Add the clinic — put the office, practice, or hospital in the location field

Titles that work well:

  • Annual physical with Dr. Jane Smith
  • MRI - Left Knee
  • Therapy session
  • Infusion appointment, with Metro Infusion Center as the location

Which calendar events does Kin skip?

Kin creates visits for appointments you attend with a provider. It leaves out health tasks you handle yourself.

  • Medication reminders — "Take levothyroxine" or a reminder for a shot you give yourself
  • To-do style titles — a checkmark at the front, or a tag like #health
  • Spa and wellness — massage, sauna, red light therapy, and cosmetic treatments

When a provider is involved, say so and Kin will pick it up. "Botox with Dr. Henry" and "Dupixent injection with Nurse Tracy" both come through.

How do I remove a visit Kin added from my calendar?

Swipe the visit in your upcoming list and tap delete. Kin asks Remove this event? and gives you up to three choices:

  • Remove just this event takes this one visit off your list.
  • Remove future repeats appears for a repeating appointment and clears the rest of the series too.
  • Ignore events with certain words stops Kin picking up that kind of event again.

The event stays on your calendar either way. Kin just stops showing it as a visit. If you change your mind, tap Undo on the message that appears right after.

Where do I see what I've ignored?

Under Add from calendar, tap Ignored events. Words and phrases lists the words you've told Kin to skip, and you can add or remove them. Recurring events lists the repeating appointments you removed, with a way to bring one back.
